I need help from a case manager/care manager

This is probably a shot in the dark, but thought I'd give it a shot anyway.

My father in law was transfered into a nursing home with the assumption that he would be receiving rehab there. We were told today that it only covers one day, and the rest will be out of pocket.  Nobody has the money to pay that.

A little background, he was in the hospital with a TBI, but was stable, no insurance (was homeless and had a hx of substance abuse). The hospital kept trying to get him out bc he eventually got stable enough to get out, he is only oriented to self, can't walk, needs 24 hr care.

I am so angry at the case worker and the nursing home, they just wanted to get him out, and could care less the effects on the family.

Does anybody have input on what to do? We applied to institutionalized medicaid but that could take months.

I am sorry to hear that you are going through this. I am new in case management and don't have any solid answers. Depending on the state you reside, there are some facilities or group homes that will keep a resident until the application is processed for Medicaid. If you are denied, however, you would be responsible for the accrued fees. I would ask the case manager or social worker if they know of any facilities that do this. You can also reach out to adult protective services in your state for recommendations and support.

Thank you for replying.

I will contact APS to see if they have any ideas. I just needed to be directed somewhere. And the state is Texas.

I will be making a formal complaint against her license. I'm not sure if this is a violation but it is definitely unethical

Thanks so much.
