I need help from anyone who got into a new graduate program in NZ or Aus

Published

I am preparing interviews for the new graduate program in NZ and Aus. Since i have never been through any kinds of interview and i am a very nervous person, i am really worried. Can anyone who got into a new graduate program provide me some questions that they have been asked before?? It will be really appreciated!!!

BTW, can experienced nurses help me with this question?? Thank you!!!

During your shift one of your patients becomes unwell, requiring a lot of your time. Describe your actions including how you would re-prioritise your workload to best manage the situation?

Sam are you talking about the NP to MD program. If so e-mail me back

no lakflem, i am talking about the transition program for nurses who graduated from a bachelor of nursing course.

Specializes in CTICU.

It's too long ago for me to remember!

Cool, have you got an interview in Australia yet? Where abouts? That is pretty good work if you have got an interview, very few O/S nurses get grad positions in Australia due to such a small amount of places being available and so many Australian trained nurses graduating each year.

Behavioural-type interviews are becoming more and more popular in Australia. So no longer will you be asked: "Why do you want to work here", rather, "Tell us about a time where you had to deal with conflict in the workplace". Or "Describe a critical incident where a patient you were caring for became unwell. Tell us how you managed the situation". How to answer, keep it short and sweet, and refer to ANMC competency standards all the time. Google ANMC australia and you'll find them. Memorise and use. :-) Interviewers want to see that you can deal with problems and you can think for yourself. So instead of saying, "I ran and got my preceptor", you should say that you applied critical reasoning to the situation and did this, this and this, while calling for help". Also, be prepared to talk alot about caring for patients from other cultures. Australia is big on that. And ethics I suspect... (Describe a time when you have been faced with an ethical dilemma while caring for a patient...)

Good luck :-)
