A little background.....I passed the old boards in 1977 and went on to practice in nursing (Orthro, med-surgical) til 1991. I went back to school and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I worked in the auto field til 2006 and was laid off. I've decided to return to nursing but I let my license lapse. Now I have to take the NCLEX. I read through the entire Saunders' book per Suzanne's plan and have done over 3500 questions, encompassing some from Kaplan and the Priorization book and reading in this forum. I found Saunder's questions rather easy at times.I also did the 180 q's from the Kaplan book and received a 69. I have a lot of personal experience from my own hip replacements, bipolar, my mom's diabetes, heart attack, atrial fib to name a few.
So I'd like to know what others think of my readiness to take the NCLEX 9/25. I am a little scared and am in a quandary if I'm ready to take the exam. I do have a time constraint to be finished.
Thanks for your feedback

I don't think anyone will really be able to tell you that you are ready or need more time.
The one piece of advice I can give you...forget what experience you have in your own personal health. You can use some of the tidbits that are based on fact. You do need to be careful with how things are treated because real life and boards are frequently very different.

Have you considered an RN refresher course at a local college? Since you have had a license and it's been a while they may give you better direction. Starting with Suzanne's Plan is a great choice. Read through the Random Facts Sticky too. If you are having to ask if you're ready, you probably are not. You'll know when you are. If there are any specific areas you feel you need help with, post questions on this forum or in the Random Facts Thread. Lots of great support here from alot of wonderful people. Good Luck.

I would suggest buying a book that has the new alternative format questions, since those questions are becoming more popular on NCLEX and practicing those questions types before you take it! Just so you become more familiar and more confident. Good Luck! :nuke:

Does your state give you the option of a refresher course vs. re-taking NCLEX?
If so, I would suggest the rfresher course. Even if you pass NCLEX, most employers would prefer a refresher course after such a long absence from nursing. So if it is possible to avoid retaking NCLEX in favor of a course, that is the route I would recommend. There are on-line courses if you don't have one in your area.
Good luck to you!
