Ok, so I am currently in the practical nursing program at my college. I have always wanted to specialize more in the psych field than be on a peds floor or er or or or cardiac, if you understand what I mean. I was just wondering if LPN's are accepted and needed in psych units? I just feel like I have a lot that I can offer to the psych patients and someone told me that LPN's generally are not needed on psych floors....Hopefully that's wrong, because thats what I want to go into when I graduate and get my license and everything....So if someone could please help me out with this one, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.

Hi,
I guess it depends on your area but around here LPNs are utilized at Psych facilities. In fact they do almost the exact same job as RNs with just a few exceptions. I started as a LPN in psych and loved it, still do. :)

in my hospital the LPN's are the medicine nurses and are invaluable....
they also take off the dr's orders and work together with the RN's in pt. care.....also do a group on medicine education with the pts.....

The hospital where I live is hiring for LPNs on the Psych unit right now. I agree it probably depends on your area. good luck :)

Hi:smokin:
At my hospital only RNs and techs work psych and that has been pretty much true everywhere I've worked.Best of luck to you, you are needed!
