Hello everyone...i am new here. I always wanted to be a nurse. I majored in Health tech in high school then went to school for MAA(Medical Admin Asst) I applied for a LPN school and I took the NET and failed..i needed a 50% and i got a 47%. I was told I could take it again.
My question is I was told by the admission counselor that if I failed the NET again i should enroll as a CMA. Once I finish i would have layed the needed ground work and then apply for the LPN right afterwards.
This is good advice she is giving me? Or should I just prepared more and harder and keep trying to the LPN till I pass the test?
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

Do you mean CNA? Getting your CNA would probably be worth it. It should only take one semester. CMA would be a waste imo. It would cost more and you wouldn't learn as much. CNAs work in hospitals. CMAs work in doctors offices (when they can find jobs).

no i don't think it is very good advice:nono:. why should u enroll as a cma if you want to be an lpn, it's like when those students who want to get their master's in nursing/practicioner & they are getting their associates degree in nursing. why did she say, "it would lay the needed ground work"? getting your cma wouldn't increase ur chances of passing the net. my advice 2u is 2study harder for the net. time yourself when ur taking a practice tests. focus on what ur most struggling w/. pick up books like the "actkaplan/princeton" or "nursing school entrance exams for dummies." i would disagree with thatposhgirl about getting your cna ¬ cma. cmas get paid much more like $3-6 starting off than cnas. cmas work in hospitals too.

I would say retake the NET. Now, that you have taken it, you now know what to expect. Your results should show what you need to study on. If you don't have the NET study guide, then get it. The study guide will help prepare you for the test. I failed the first time too, but I retook it and passed.
GOOD LUCK!!!

I agree, study and retake the test. You already have a good idea what is on it, how questions are phrased, how skills are assessed. As for CNA/CMA, our hospital only hires CNA's and not many at that. Most are nursing students in their first semester and not certified CNA's (you learn the skills taught to CNA's in the first semester of nursing school so many hospitals will hire students that have passed that first semester and pay them CNA pay). If you are still considering CNA/CMA then look around and see what openings are available for these certifications in your area so you will be able to find a job.
Thank you all for your advice. I have a friend that is great in math and he is my tutor. I had a session with him today and it was great! I realize i knew alot of the math...just had to refresh my brain since i have not use it in over 10 yrs! I dont wanna be a CMA and I dont wanna be a CNA I want to be a nurse. Starting out as a LPN then to RN. So Im going to study my butt off and pass that test this Thursday!
I am following the advice of CSantos on taking the NET and will be more prepared for the test this time around. I will post my update on Thursday.
