Hey everyone, I was hoping someone could give me some info on the hesi test. I am going to a community college in Texas and I am currently doing some classes to qualify me to do the LVN program they offer. First of all, I would rather be an RN but the criteria that has to be met for the LVN program is a little more attainable for me right now. I fully intend to get my LVN certification and then enroll for the RN mobility program soon after.
But the problem I am having is that I dont know much about the Hesi test and my counselors at school dont know too much about it either. I was told to just google it but alot of different things pop up. I was reading some posts on this site that said you need to take it a couple of times throughout. I wasnt told that at all, just that I have to pass it in order to be considered for theh program. I also have questions about what is exactly on the test. People have told me that you can't really study for it bc its just a critical thinking type of test. Then again, I have heard the opposite as well. I heard that it has a study guide you can purchase and that there are math and biology questions.
I know beyond a shadow of a doubt I want to be some type of nurse but I am not sure quite what the responsibilities of an LVN are. I am a massage therapist currently and I have a few clients that are RNs. Basically, they say that LVNs kinda do the "gruntwork" an RN won't do. And then they make me feel bad bc they usually follow up with something like "don't worry honey, you have to start somewhere."
I'm not in a position to do the RN program right now so I am set on the LVN. I would just like to know from a nurse's mouth so to speak, what you guys think about this. Is an LVN position inferior or something bc I was watching a profram last night where they made a joke about that. It was that show Nurse Jackie, and yes I do know that it's probably NOT(LOL) the best representation of what a nurse should be.
Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it.
