I was in Borders (in the isle with all of the health books of course) when a girl asked if I was a nurse. I told her that I was starting school in Sept and she told me she was starting her 2nd yr of a BSN program (at an Ivy League school). When I asked her how her 1st yr went, she told me that it was tough because she was diagnosed with cancer over Thanksgiving and had a liver transplant at the end of her spring semester. I was stunned..yeah I guess it was a tough year for her!!! And she is only 22 yr old.
We spoke for a bit longer about our goals and general nursing stuff, but as I drove home I thought that if she completed her 1st yr with all of her medical problems, then surely we all able bodied people can. She will be my inspiration--we all need someone like that to push us further than we think we can go.
