Greetings, Long time lurker, posted very few times. Everyone on here is amazing and I appreciate your advice.
CNA cost $400 plus $75 for state exam. 8 week program. CNA focus more on ADL and bedside care as instructed by RN.
Basic EMT cost $1500 2 week accelerated course. EMT focus on rapid in-field treatment and transport to higher medical providers.
I will be done with my prereqs in Dec. Apply in April and begin program in Aug 2010 - 2012.
I'm currently a volunteer for Red Cross for my county as a Disaster Action Team Leader (a first responder).
TIA for any advice and I hopefully can make logical decision soon.

Something else to think of is the job market in your area. Are there jobs for CNA's and EMT's?? Check out the pay and time commitment. In many areas, EMT's volunteer... so if you looking to get paid for your time, research that too. We (the prehospital type) generally work 12 or 24 hour shifts... while CNA's may work 4 - 12 hour shifts. (something to think about if your going to work AND go to school) The key with any type of training is experience. You can get your EMT / CNA / RN / MD / what ever.... but experience and solid mentoring is what puts the pieces together for you. Another thing to consider is what your end goal is... ER or Flight? EMT is the way to go. Good luck what ever path leads you to your goals...
