Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

My first job was at a hospital and that lasted for about 5 months (was new nurse, had 7 pt, Was on a super heavy med surg floor, 4/7 pt on isolation, 5/7 diabetic, 2/7 were on 48 hour psych watch, and had one tech, no sectary, 3/7 new adds) well with all that said I now have been working for a reproductive, gyn office. The pay is not that bad but the benefits are awful. I am going for my RN and was was wondering if there are any jobs with good benefits that are not in the hospital?

Unless you get into public health, not many.

Prison nurses are known for receiving good pay and excellent benefits, as they are typically employed by a city, county, state, or governmental agency. Also, nurses who are employed at schools, community colleges, and state universities usually receive good benefit packages.

Many medical units in corrections are ran by private companies the pay scale varies, but the pay is usually better than the benefits. If you want good benefits than I agree with "TheCummuter" seek a positon with an agency. However, I can tell you from experience that RNs make considerably more than LPNs with the government. I applied for a position with the VA and was offered $15 /hr with 2 years of experience and they hired me to work in the nursing home. :o
