Hi all!
There are so many threads on here about new grads being stressed and frustrated about their careers that I wanted to start a thread from a different angle. I love my job! I am a new grad who got hired in the ER right away and I have had the best experience that I could hope for. I had an amazing mentor who was supportive and encouraged me to figure things out on my own (which was really helpful once I was done orientation), I work with an amazing groups of nurses who are competent, caring and have a great sense of teamwork. I actually look forward to going into work. Of course there are frustrating days, pts and situations and I have cried once or twice but I really love my job and want to hear other people feeling the same way? I know I am still in the honeymoon phase lol but can anyone else tell me what they love about emergency nursing in general or their place of work/coworkers??

I'm glad to hear that there are other medical people out there that are loving their jobs as well! I work as a mental health tech in the ED and have been here for about a year; I work with an incredible group of people who are patient and helpful, and very important to me, have A SENSE OF HUMOR! I work evenings now after working day shift in another department for a year and I am eternally grateful that I haven't had to set an alarm clock in over a year :)

Yup-
It's a good job. "Love" is a strong word for me, as I find any job a necessary inconvenience. But.. I do enjoy my work, usually have a good time, and periodically make sombody's day a little- or a lot- better.

Yay! I'm a new grad, starting on a med/surg unit Monday and to psych myself up, I've been searching for people that have positive things to say about nursing, so I'm glad I found you guys! I was an art therapist/case manager for the past 7 years and to nurses who complain about not getting paid enough: do not get a degree in counseling. Seriously, I know nursing will be one of the hardest things I've ever done, but I think it will be one of the best, too.
I'm wondering about the fact that if there are so many different kinds of nurses, so many options for employment, from hospitals to doctor's offices, why are there so many unhappy nurses?
I figured that if/when the med surg unit became unbearable, I would just switch to a different nursing floor/interest...
