Hi my name is Amber. I am currently a LPN looking to go back to RN school. I have been accepted into excelsior college school of nursing but I have heard some not so great things. I have heard that some employers don't like graduates of excelsior but they want someone who went through a traditional course. In the area I live in most schools require that you work as a LPN for 6 months before being able to apply for their programs and I feel that excelsior gives me the advantage to hurry up and get finished. So I am just looking for advice. If anyone has completed the program and found a job or had trouble getting a job. And if any of you are employers of rn nurses feel free to leave input as to how you feel about the online nursing school. I am open for comments and would love to get some good feedback!

We have plenty of members of our forums who have completed Excelsior's programs. Excelsior College isn't for everyone, though. You need to be self-motivated, disciplined and able to teach the material to yourself. Check out our Excelsior College forum:

Yes I just want some advice from those who have completed the course. I know I could do it I'm very driven and I don't like to fail but I want to make sure if I invest my time and money that it will be worth it.

Due to the problem some people have with passing the CPNE, the EC program is better used for a Plan B. You can take the CPNE three times before being dismissed from the program, but that is a pricey and time consuming choice for those who fail. Traditional programs, along with their greater acceptability, also come with the advantage that if you show up and do what you are asked to do for your clinical placements, it is easier to pass clinical and thus succeed in the program.
