:confused:I am doing a medication sheet for my lab class and it is asking for the IV injection rate, I am a little confused on what this means....

Specializes in ER/ICU/STICU.

Some meds can be pushed but they need to be pushed slowly. For example, IV Lopressor should be pushed slowly to avoid dropping the HR/BP too fast.

Specializes in PICU, Sedation/Radiology, PACU.

Rate of injection is the same thing as rate of infusion, but usually refers to a medication given by IV push, rather than a pump. It basically means how fast/slow you need to give the medication. In the drug books, you'll find this information under the "Administration" heading. You usually won't get a value like mL/hr, but you'll see mg/min or mcg/min.

Your drug book should have a time frame like 5ml given over 10 minutes example only

Thank you guys so much! :D
