I just wanted to get you guys opinion on how should I interpret what happen to me while I was applying to a nursing school.... Here's the situation, I'll try to sum it down.
I called a nursing school to get info on the RN program and scheduled an appointment. While at the appointment the admission advisor informed me that my grades were good and asked me if it was okay if I take the pre-admission exam. I took the exam which was the TESI(i think) My reading was in the in the high 80's(the avg. was in the lower 70's) she told me that although that it was above avg., that students usually score about 3 points higher than my score.(what!!!) I past the math. She told me in order to do an appliation, that I will have to get about the 60's in science, and english. (Well I scored in the 70's and 80's). We filled out an app. and told me that she needed $100 deposit.
Ok, here is where it gets tricky. I thought that the $100 was like an app.fee, but my friend who also applied to the school (who had a diff. admission advisor) told me that she was told that it was a deposit to hold her seat, meaning that she got accepted. She even said that her representative said congrats to her and everything. We both scored around the same on our entrance exam(she was a little bit higher in reading and math, but I was alot higher in science and english) Our G.P.A's are similar and above the school's acceptance G.P.A. So why wasn't I given an acceptance speech and pat on the back? Do you think that my friend's advisor jumped the gun? I know that the program is not full ( i was the 2nd applicant for the sept. 2006 class for her) So why was we told different things? I want to ask the admission advisor, but i don't want to seem unpatient(for lack of a better word).
And to add some more to the mix, I'm am "over-qualified" for this school meaning that I took most of all the classes at a local university that are offered during the first semester!(a&p 1&2, english, stat, soc., psych, math, bacter. etc.)
Your comments are much appreciated. Thanks!!

I would just call the school and ask. After all, this is your future career and you need to know if you are already in or are waiting for an acceptance letter.

$100.00 deposit to hold your seat sounds crooked and "criminal" to me.....
something isn't right.

100 dollar deposit to hold a seat isn't unsual to me. At the university that I go to I had to pay a 200 dollar deposit to ensure that I was going, it went towards the tuition as the same as the nursing school that i was talking about.

I would call the school to get clarification. Maybe you could get someone to call for you and pretend to be a prospective student asking about the process?

$100 seems "criminal"? LOL - I'm jealous, mine asked for $250, wish I was that lucky...granted, it's applied to the tuition, but still...

I paid $500.
I have never heard of a school that DIDN'T measure your intent to actually attend with a deposit. It's not an extra payment; it comes off of your total bill. They just want to know who is coming and who is not, so they know how many slots they have left to offer to other people.
To the OP: you need to call your school and find out what the deal is.

I'd call the school and ask about their acceptance procedure. In Mississippi, on the coast, we don't have a seat fee, but that doesn't mean others don't.
