I have never heard of a hospital hiring LPNs to actually work in L&D, but I have heard of them working in post-partum.
I'm not sure what area of the country you're in, but I have two friends who are LPNs in one of the Chicago hospitals, working the post partum unit. They do a lot of patient/family teaching, assessments, and documentation and they love it.
I have only heard of LPN working in hospital in OB area mostly in rural area and is not the norm. I have known/ heard of LPNs working with the same population in other settings; I have a friend that got a job in an OB/GYN office and I saw a job opening for an inner city health department in the family planning area, where they would be assisting with prenatal care and education. Personally I have work in pediatric home health as an LPN, not all my patients were babies but I did get a few.
I have worked in postpartum as a LPN. It would be rare to find an LPN working as a primary L&D nurse. You would be more likely to find a LPN job in L&D assisting with deliveries and recovery and/or scrubbing for c-sections. Some LPNs also work in the well baby nursery. However these jobs a few and far between, so if it is your desire to work in those areas you should become an RN.

Hi I'm going to be starting school soon for LVN, I just wanted to know if a LVN can work in labor in delivery or work with babies at all? If someone can answer me it will be truly helpful... Thanks!!!
