I hate Kronos (electronic punch in/out system)

In the last 4 days I forgot to punch out of lunch 3 times (I only been working there for 2 weeks). I just keep thinking about patients and things I need to do, and I don't spend lunches in the lunch room where the stupid Kronos is, and the lunch room is way off my beaten path so nothing reminds me of its existence until it's too late (we MUST punch out for lunch... even if we don't have time to have a lunch). You have to go to your supervisor and have an oops form signed (which makes you look like a complete moron, especially when you do it twice in a row... and third time two days after)

I had clinicals in a hospital and the nurses there forgot to punch often too.

I hate Kronos, and I hate myself for not being able to remember to use it. And I hate Kronos for making me feel this way even more.

Specializes in ED, ICU, lifetime Diabetes Education.

My hospital uses KRONOS also but we do not have to punch out for lunch. If we are unable to take a lunch break we complete a time adjustment form and explain the circumstances.

Our system is the same as GadgitGurl. It's ridiculous, and I think against the law, that you have to punch out for lunch even if you didn't take one.

Specializes in ER, IICU, PCU, PACU, EMS.

So, you work for free for the half hour you are suppose to be taking lunch?

If you punch out for lunch, then you need to take your lunch. Otherwise, clock no lunch. The more nurses do this, the less hospitals will take advantage of them.

Use the timer/clock on your cell to remind you. We have timers in our lunch room so you can set and remember to clock back in when your'e done w/ lunch. Some facilities have staff punching in/out for lunch, instead of by omission as some described, because there have been issues regarding people not putting in the request for no lunch to the labor board. After that everyone has to punch in / out or have a CN sign for no lunch. Once it was made mandatory, and everyone was assigned a relief person for their meals, they started taking them. You're new, they're's a learning curve ;-)

Do you carry your cell phone with you at work? If you do, set reminders on your phone to go off at the times you need to punch in or out.

Also, buddy with another nurse on your floor. In the morning, say to them, "Hey, grab me when you're going to punch the clock. I've been forgetting lately."

Consider going to the lunch room to grab a drink each day, just to get yourself in the habit of walking there. Pretty soon, when you think about a drink, you'll remember the lunch room and and the time clock.

That's what I would do: set a reminder to punch in on time when I arrived (I usually got to work early), then to log out and in for whenever I did get a lunch.

However, I never had a problem remembering to clock out for the day ;)

I use my phone reminder too. I would forget everything without my phone! It truly is an extension of my brain.
