I hate the Hesi-vent

Published

I took the Hesi for the second time today. My score was 677 :o the first time I got a 810 this was our mid curricular hesi so right now its just for diagnostics purposes. Now I feel worried though b/c next April it will determine if I grad. or not. and I will need a 850. The weird thing is half of the stuff I had never heard of and seemed way over any knowledge I have attained in nursing school so far. I feel like what if I make it till the last sem. and can't take nclex b/c I could not pass the hesi. Next month I am going to buy the Hesi study guides and commit to maybe studying one hour a week just for hesi this summer and when school starts up in Aug. I know I can do it but I absolutely hate this test and that I spent 37.00 each time I retested. :angryfire

How did everyone else study who took it an passed?

I have to take those darn HESIs at the end of a bunch of my classess and then I have one big HESI at the end like you that determines whether or not I graduate. I've just been doing as many NCLEX questions as I can from different books. I have the Lippencott's and NSNA NCLEX review books. I also look at the NCLEX books at my school's library and I think Mosby's has helped me out a lot. I just set a goal for myself like doing 20 questions per day and if I knew I'd be waiting around somewhere like the doctor's office I'd take my book with me to kill time. After a while, you'll start seeing patterns of topics that keep coming up and you'll get used to the type of questions and how to answer them the right way. Don't stress because you've got quite some time before you have to take the HESI and if you pace yourself and do as many of those practice questions as you can, you'll get the hang of these NCLEX questions.

Hi! My school made us take many HESIs!!! We took a pedi and maternity one junior year, and then during our last semester senior year, they had us take the end of program HESI up to three times to get an 850. I got an 817 my first time, and then a 994 the second time. I took it a third time also just for practice and got a 1047. I think my scores kept going up cuz I would do A TON OF PRACTICE QUESTIONS!!!! I bought the lippincott and kaplan books with CD-ROMS and I would do 50 questions a night for a couple of weeks leading up to each HESI, and that helped me out big time. You're right, there are lots of subjects that pop up on those tests that we're not taught about in nursing school...but that is why I think it is so important to keep doing lots of practice questions in the Q & A books, so you'll familiarize yourself to a broad range of topics. Good luck to you!!!!!!
