I got in!!

I got my acceptance letter yesterday!! Yea! I'm so excited but really overwhelmed. I wasn't expecting to get in so soon. I was planning on taking A&P I and Micro next semester and A&P II in the summer and being ready for next fall. So now to my surprise I have to take all of that with my nursing classes.

Thats awesome:) And congrats. where are you from? I never heard of you getting accepted before you take the pre reqs. Just curious???????????

Good luck and you can do anything you want.....

:) Congratulations!!!:w00t: That's wonderful, I have never heard of starting nursing classes while taking pre-req's. That's a blessing. What location are you in?

I am going to Wallace State in Hanceville, Alabama. Those classes are considered co-reqs instead of pre-reqs at my school. Thanks everyone for your well wishes.

Congratulations! You must be very happy! :)

Regarding science prerequisites, I think it depends on the program and the school. I know that for an LPN or ADN, some community colleges just requires that students have basic Biology or Chemistry from high school.

Or if a person goes for a BSN, often the AP I and II courses, Micro, etc, are often taken as part of the 4 year program.

I am going for a second degree Acelerated BSN so in my case, most programs require AP I,II, Micro, Chem, etc.

Of course, some schools have different rules.

WOW!! I cannot imagine taking all of those classes WITH the regular nursing courses!! I attend a community college in Indianapolis. To get into just the LPN program you have to have these pre-reqs completed:

Algebra, English Comp., Intro to Psych., ANP I and be enrolled in ANP II. IF you have at least a C in all of those, you may apply to take the PSB test. IF you score high enough on that, they will send you an application for the program; (you can't just go to the nursing office and pick up an app.) After they get all of the apps back, they pick students for the program.

I think that schools which don't require the science classes to be taken Prior to acceptance, usually have it structured so that the science classes are taken Before the nursing courses. So it it's a 2 year program, the first semester would include general ed courses and a couple science, then the following semester more science courses, and maybe an intro to nursing. But the main nursing courses are not usually taken until after all the science courses are completed.

This is also the way it usually works in a regular 4 year program (for any major), at many collegses/universities. There are general ed courses (which include mathc, english, humanities, science, etc.) taken the first 2 years, then the following 2 years courses are concentrated more on the major chosen.

So if nursing was the major, then the main nursing courses are taken in the last 2 years, and not really all together with the science prereqs or co-requisites. If it's a coreq it doesn't necessarily mean that they have to be taken at the same time as the nursing courses, but they can be taken while enrolled in the program working towards the nursing degree.

If a program allows students to enroll in a program w/o the science courses, most likely the student will take them Before they take the major nursing courses. So it's actually the same as if you were taking them at another college, Before you are accepted into a program.

But the advantage is that you are Already enrolled in the program and don't have to worry about applying and waiting to get into a program.

CONGRATS!!!!!!! Did you get accepted to the LPN or RN program???

---------------------------------

Btw, at my community college...they have pre-reqs and co-reqs.

To get into the LPN program---the pre-reqs are only Math24 and ENG 100. EASY hehe!!! but if you have some or all of your co-reqs finished before you apply than you have a better chance on getting into the program.

For the RN, they also have pre-reqs and Co-reqs. The pre-reqs is ENG100, CHEM100, MATH 100, ZOOL 141 & 142, and PSY100 & 240. And I can't remember the co-reqs right now. sry hehe!
