I just got my acceptance call yesterday from Oakland University(Michigan) for class starting Fall 2004! I can't thank everyone enough for the great posts and advice, and resources to look up. I've been on this site for over a year now and it has lead me to interesting topics, current political issues, and boundless ideas. Besides the hard work we all put into preparing and applying for school it was helpful to get a real idea of what crna's do from this board. The real nitty-gritty details about anesthesia are important to understand before getting into school because it is such a committment. There are so many talented and bright prospective students on this board, I wish all of you luck. Also, there are many crnas and srnas that gave great insight into the field, thank you!
I was so lucky to have applied at two schools that took a friendly approach to recruiting students. Oakland University and University of Detroit(got an alternate position there) were very approachable and encouraged director-nurse meetings along with shadowing opportunities. Both interviews were very relaxed (actually I was surprised that they were composed of all crnas and srnas because I had heard mdas were involved in the process sometimes). I did have a test and an essay to write just before my interview with 12 people though! I feel that it is very competitive in my area of michigan(detroit) compared to others in michigan, there were 15 people combined from the two SICUs at my hospital that applied to OU, and they only accept 20 people total.
Well, thanks again everyone, I will be staying on this board. If any one else has been accepted to OU let me know and if anyone has any questions also.
