I am thrilled to say that all my hard work and the state test was worth it.
After one week of serious searching, I applied for a job that met my driving criteria and schedule.
It is from 11pm to 7 am at a nursing home, LTC.
It was fast. I printed an app online last night. Over the phone I called and asked if they had night shifts open. The RN in charge said yes and to bring in the app and she would try to fit me in for an interview. Anyhow I get there and the receptionist calls someone else to meet me. I guess they have several people that hire. She takes my app and says have a nice day. I'm like "huh?". So I get a call 5 minutes later and the HR lady tells me to turn around and come back for a tour.
I basically do the interview as she is walking and showing me the facility with another RN. I am totally impressed at how clean and neat things are. I ask all the right questions. I tell her I am looking for a long term assignment not come and go. i tell her I am always on time. The other RN says " I love that". They introduce me to other staff, residents. I was really impressed.
I basically have no formal nursing home experience except 3 weeks internship. I really concentrated on that and what i learned there, I made the most of remembering what i learned there. I interned at a state nursing home, everything was run real smooth. The RN was impressed when I told her how much I enjoyed working there because it's harder work since the residents are mostly bed ridden and have special needs. I felt comftorble and was honest about knowing how to work stuff.
THe RN asked me if I ever used a lift, I told her we were not allowed to while at the VA home but told her I was willing to learn.
The whole staff was really nice and not uptight.
I went for a drug test that same day and have my orientation tomorrow. It was all so fast.
I know I wanted ideally a hospital job but hey you know what I need to get my feet wet somewhere.
Remember gals, when you drop off an app, wear business clothes, I did and it paid off cause I went right in to talk to someone about the position .
Wish me luck:yeah:
