I got accepted and I am due in March 2015

Published

Good morning. I just found out that I got accepted to the Winter 2105 nursing program at my school. This is great news! I am super excited. I am also SUPER NERVOUS because I am due with our 6th child in March 2105 - smack in the middle of my first semester. I know I can handle it and I know that it will all work out - it always does. I am just looking to see if there is anyone out there who has been in my situation or has any sound advice for me. A few of my good friends are nurses and will be great supporters. They have me a little scared for what is to come ( unintentionally I will say, but they gave it to me straight). Thanks in advance. I go to orientation next week and already my stomach is in knots :)

There have been two of our classmates who have had babies during nursing school. It's certainly not easy, but you can get through it with a good support system.

Having said that, is there any way they could put you in the fall 2015 cohort? It would be ideal because you & the baby would have much less stress this way. Our classmates who delivered were both given the option of starting a semester later or taking a semester off and coming back. There was one student who took this option and is now in the class behind us.

I am due at the end of February (I'll be in my third semester, though) and plan on continuing! Just talk to your teachers ahead of time and see what kind of accomodations they can offer. I can only miss one class and one clinical all semester (that I have to make up still) but they are willing to let me pile up my simulation hours before I'm due so I don't have to worry about it as much after.

I have 8 children, and I can tell you, the rest of college is no where near as hard as nursing school. Personally I would ask to delay till fall otherwise, I am afraid you might have to retake 1st semester over again.

And OP, I'd see if they can front load your clinicals so you're done with those before you're due. I had two friends who were pregnant during nursing school and this worked well for them.

im 30 weeks pregnant and in my 1st semester of nursing school ... it is 100% possible to do . my best advice to you is to realize the fact that most people feel you should "delay the process" just because you're having a baby but let it be your motivation to push through it! when i told my director of nursing that i was 5months pregnant (in orientation) she "encouraged me" to think about doing the program next fall ... well low and behold i have one of the highest grades in the whole program this semester ..... i make myself study at least 1-2 hours/day and go to sleep every night before or at 11 ; IT IS POSSIBLE!!
