I just picked up a study packet from IRSC for the NLN. The packet includes sheets for thermodynamics, electricity, kinetics, organic chem., etc. I am just flabbergasted. I have a BS in mechanical engineering and can't imagine why the NLN would have these advanced concepts for entry into a nursing program...... especially when the programs don't even require higher level science classes as prerequisites. It's been a lot of years since I finished my BS-ME, and will really have to study to fish these science concepts out of muddy waters.
So, just curious - anyone understand why thermodynamics (et al) is being used to score entry to nursing??? I just can't make sense of it....

My recommendation to you is to find a copy of the NLN study guide. It has 4 sample NLN tests in each of the subject areas in it. I found several of the practice questions on the actual NLN test. It is what I used to study with, and I made a 99%.......and I've been out of college for 13 yrs!
The science part is by far the most difficult part of the NLN....out of the 15 questions I missed, 13 were on the science section.
Best of luck to you, I am positive you will do great!

While there are indeed some advanced science questions on the exam they are very very basic. You do not need a thourough understanding of physics to answer these questions. The formulas and examples given in the NLN study guide are more than adequate.

I agree with the previous poster, get the study guide. The science section isn't too bad. The most difficult questions for me were based on circuits (yuck), but the subjects are pretty basic.
Good luck on the exam!
I agree with the previous poster, get the study guide.
Sweet, I knew if I waited long enough, someone finally would!
