how do I find CNA jobs?

Published

I'm a nursing student who recently challenged for CNA test, passed the test, and earned the CNA license. I was excited that I could work at a hospital as a CNA while taking nursing classes/clinicals. There were many positions open in different nursing homes and hospitals, but they seemed to accept applicants with EXPERIENCE. I've applied to at least ten different open CNA positions, only to receive email saying their looking for better qualified candidate for the position (some places never even sent me a message). So here's my questions to CNA's or nursing students, how can i improve my odds of getting a CNA job at a hospital or nursing homes with little to no experince? I do have clinical hours but so far they seem to be not impressed with it.

Where are you located? Also have you created a resume?

I just got accepted into a class at a LTC facility... they train and certify you while paying you, and then you are guaranteed a job. I would suggest trying to find a facility that offers that... they are more willing to hire people that have no experience.(Even though you don't need the class and won't be taking it) As for a resume I would attach that to every application that you fill out...it will make you stand out more than other applicants. I was worried because I had no experience in anything nursing related, but I listed all of my jobs and also personal reasons as to why I wanted to do this such as compassion, etc. Also list all clinical experience that you do have.

Keep searching! You will find something, even if it is home healthcare. May have to lower your expectations to find something to get that initial experience and then be on you way. :)

I suggest moving your post to the CNA forum... might get some replys since more cnas are on that one. I wish you lots of luck!!!

One of our nursing school instructors established a relationship with the HR guy at a large city hospital here in Florida. So far they have hired 4 of us and the HR guy has asked her for more students. Maybe ask at your instructors for help.
