I failed the TEAS-RN so now going for Charity LPN...what do you think?

Published

As the Title says, I failed the TEAS in September and that shattered my dreams of ever graduation from Charity's RN program. Yes, I know that you can take it twice, but what if I fail again?

Well, I am now planning to apply for the LPN program at Charity in May. Problem is that I hear so many RN's not finding a job so my chances as an LPN seem slim to none.

I currently volunteer at Childrens Hospital and I love it. My dream would be to one day work there but of course they won't hire me if I am an LPN. So I guess I have to let go of that dream too.

I feel so hopeless and disappointed in myself for screwing things up for me. Or maybe if I was just smart enough I wouldn't have a problem. Its so frustrating b/c money is not the issue....but I feel like I am trying to buy a million dollar house on a $100,000 budget! My dream seems so unreachable now.

I had posted a new thread asking if anyone was planning to apply to LPN school this may.....no one has replied. I guess not many people are interested in becoming or reading about an LPN.

I sent you a PM. Not sure if I did that right. Did you get it?

I am an LPN. If you honestly think that you can't get a job as an LPN, you are so wrong. Alot of places hire LPN's because it's cheaper for their bottom line, and they only need on RN working at any given time to do the few things an LPN can't do. I've been an LPN for 3 years, and I work in corrections nursing. I LOVE It! I make great money too. I am trying to bridge at Delgado, but really it's because my current company is paying for the majority of it. So it's not as bad as you think. You'll see and appreciate just how much an LPN can do.

Don't ever give up!

THE LESS YOU BET, THE MORE YOU LOSE WHEN YOU WIN!

So Spring Semester 2010 @ Delgado starts tomorrow afternoon for me. I am so excited about this semester as it will be the semester that I apply to Charity LPN program.

I am very pleased to hear that there are employment possibilities as an LPN. I might have forgotten but did you go through the Charity LPN? If so, do you mind letting us know what to expect of the program and just how "difficult" it is.

Is there more patient interaction as an LPN as compared to that of an RN? I would love more patient interaction. I had read somewhere in this site that some LPN's could make as little as $9.00... What do you have to say about that?

Any tid bits of information you could give us future LPN's would be most appreciated :D

I did not go to Charity for my LPN. I went to Delta College, and it was a tough program. I worked on a med-surg floor at the hospital near where I live. I did patient care just like the RN's who worked on my floor. If I needed a med pushed I had to all one of them to do it or if I had a patient receiving blood the RN had to spike the bag. But, I monitored the infusion. So, I think it depends on where you work. The place I work now, there are no RN's,and we do okay.

never think negative even when it feels like nothing goes your way!!!my relative is 63 she was retired for years and decided she wanted to go back to schhol she graduated from charity LPN program in 2004 you are never too old for anything! She encouraged me to go back to school and since I already had a degree to apply for RN..after 8 years of being away from school I enrolled at DCC took API &II summer and Fall and Micro this past semester coming from criminal justice science was foreign to me but it did not make me give up..bought the TEAS practice manual and bought the online practice test (very similar to the actual test) passed n made a 73 on top of that I have 2 daughters 8 &5 andgot custody of my sisters 4 kids 13,11,9 &7 last november I start the RN program in August...and I work fulltime as a cop...it may seem like a lot but I don't let anyone or anything discourage my dream and you shouldn't either!!!! I will be 31 this summer...the program at Charity is not a cake walk that is why they have a reputation of producing some of the best nurses around...don't ever let anything discourage you..if u put your mind to it that YOU CAN DO IT !!! YOU WILL....if there are bumps in the road..take a detour they have good programs like Our Lady of the Lake and others that are alternatives....don't let the test hauntyou..use the online tools go to teas in search engine and it will give u another site that gives free help...I used all the different tools o help me because I had not been in school for so long but it is never too late good luck in accomplishing your dream nd remember to never give up no matter what

Wow!!! You are trully inspiring. I can't believe with everything you have going on, you are determind to move forward. I was feeling pretty upset about having failed the TEAS. My husband has been very supportive and I haven't worked since July 2008 when our 2nd daughter was born. I feel as if I failed him but I can't change the past.

I applaud you for taking on the responsibiltiy of your sisters children while being responsible for your own. I hear being a cop is tough work and doing the RN program at the same time is a lot of reason to feel like I can do this.

Although I still think about the TEAS and the RN program from time to tim, I am moving forward with the amunition I have...I am happy to say that yesterday I filled out my application for the Charity LPN program. I did it at the office at the Charity school of nursing with the admissions coordinator. I was advised that a decision will be made in June. Those that make it will get a phone call and those that don't will get a letter.

I ask that you please keep me in your prayers so that I am accepted. I am scared of the possibility of not being accepted (there I go thinking negative again!). But I wan't to be prepared for the possbility.

RN Hopeful,

How are things going for you? Did you get into the LPN program? Hope all is well.

Hi SU9032 :)

I am happy to report that I was accepted to the Delgado's/Charity LPN program this August. We actually have our first skills check off this friday and I am so nervous. It has been a big adjustment from regular college tests and lectures but I am happy to report that I am doing well...A's & B's!

We have clinicals the last week of November after the Thanksgiving break. I still think about the TEAS from time to time and wonder if I will ever move forward into the RN program. What ever I choose to do though, I am sure I will be happy. My priority to caring for those who are facing health issues. It doesn't matter if you are an LPN or an RN....at the end of the day its the reward of knowing that you helped someone that matters.

Thanks for keeping an eye! Wish me luck in check off and our 2nd test this Friday! So stressed!

RN hopeful,

What have you decided to do or have you gotten into an LPN program or have you retaken the TEAS? I see no problem with applying for the LPN program. You could do that and get most of your skills out of the way, and then do an LPN to RN transition program. That may be through Charity or there are online programs. Hope all is well.

RN Hopeful,

I just saw your response that you are already in the LPN program. That's awesome. When are you supposed to graduate? I really think that you will get a strong foundation with your clinical skills and you will learn how to take the NCLEX style tests. Let me tell ya, this RN program is very stressful at times and a lot of students end up repeating courses because of the volume of material and lack of test taking skills. One of the most stressful aspects for me personally in the RN program is balancing my studies with the clinical aspect. Then I see the LPN's in the transition program, and they seem to breeze through clinicals so they can put more energy into their test prep. When I did my clinicals at Oschner, one of the LPN's was doing a LPN to RN online program so that may be another option to consider. For now, just focus on the LPN program. Take it one step at a time. Sounds like you are doing great!

RN hopeful,

I saw on another post that you already have a job at EJ. That's great. I just did my clinicals there and I was hoping to get into their tech program this summer, but they're doing away with it for financial reasons (at least for next summer). What kind of job are you doing. Are you a CNA or something else?
