Hello!
Five years ago my Washington state RN license was suspended because I had become addicted to pain medications. Now it's time for me to reapply to the board of Nursing to have my license re-activated and I would like to know exactly what I should share with the board to get my license back.
I have successfully completed a rehab program and have been clean for 5 years. The root of my addiction stemmed from depression which has been well controlled for over 4 years with medication.
I want to be successful my first time re-applying and was hoping a fellow RN that has experienced this could give me advice.
I do not plan to go back to bedside care but at the same time I want to avoid stipulations on my license if possible.
I am very excited to get my career back and do not want to miss this amazing opportunity.
Thank you in advance!

Hey darlin, welcome to the site! You should get an administrative lawyer who has experience in dealing with the BON. More than likely you will still have to deal with stipulations on your license- but maybe your state has an alternative program you could enter and you can avoid permanent scarring on your license. A lawyer will help you fight your case! Keep us posted!

You will need PROOF that are in recovery. You can't know until you ask. They may still ask for screens for the next few years.
Good idea and I will consider this. Thank you!
You are correct, subee, I just need to know exactly what they are wanting to see. I called the BON and received very vague instructions so I need to speak with someone that can give me an actual list of required documents. I really want to present myself in the best light upon my return.
Thank you!

It should be a point in your favor that you are not going back to work too soon:). Keep in touch.
Very good idea and thank you!
