I have been called for SEC assessment

Hi everybody,

I have been referred by CRNBC to Kwantlen University for the SEC Assessment. It is a General assessment in Med/Surg scheduled for 2 days. Will I be asked for the Focused Assessment also. The assessment results will take about 3 to 5 weeks. Should I wait in Canada for the results. Since living without work in a foreign country would be a costly proposition, what type of work I can find before the results though I am not allowed to work as a nurse. Further, I have also been admitted in the MPH programme by the Kansas State University, which is also starting along with my SEC Assessment. Would it be prudent to join the Kansas State University and let the CRNBC take its own time for the registration. However, in case I do not qualify the SEC Assessment, where am I supposed to join the refresher program and how long will it take. Is it a very costly affair. Would it be prudent to pursue nursing in Canada rather to switch over to my MPH career in USA during these times of recession. Please anyone help

Without a work permit you can not work whilst you wait for your SEC results. For a work permit you need a employer and they need a LMO which they may not be willing to employ you if you are only going to be there for a short period of time.

Thanks for the reply Silverdragon102. Anyways if i stay there for a longer time i.e., pursue my registration to a logical end, i.e., i join the refresher course suggested by the CRNBC then do I stand a chance of employment. what type of work I can find during the refresher course though I am not allowed to work as a nurse. Would it be prudent to pursue nursing in Canada rather to switch over to my MPH career in USA during these times of recession.

Further can you help me as to what type of questions can I expect in my SEC Assessment

I have no experience with SEC so can't help you there. To work in Canada the links on CIC should be able to let you know what you can do. Generally to get a work permit you need a employer, they need to get a LMO and prove that they can not employ Canadian citizen or permanent resident. A lot will depend on what sort of permit you are coming to Canada on

People were denied visas just for SEC, I highly doubt that you'll be given a visa that would allow you to work! You might need to have proof that you return to your country after SEC to get a visa at all.
