I can't believe she said that

I was at work and a new RN graduate was telling a story about a class she was taking that had a LPN in it. She said the LPN was asking questions about meds and why a patient would take them. The new grad then said I have nothing against LPN's but LPN's need to go away because they don't know what they're doing and they're annoying! We're the "real" nurses. I was FLOORED!

Well, anyone that believes LPNs are not nurses are missing something. In addition, I can't speak for anyone else, but I love being an LPN. I like being in between the RNs and CNAs, having the additional knowledge, but the practical skills. I also teach in a practical way as well...I break down things in a language that most can understand...a talent that some of the RNs I work with have not been able to do. Oh, well, shame to her and anyone else who feels that way.

I have a bad habit of not knowing what to say back to rude remarks like that until later.. Then i'm stuck thinking about what I should have said. Sounds to me like she is going to be one of the RNs (not all of them) that let their name get to their heads. I know a lot of RN's that are awesome and do not treat anyone like they are any less but I know alot of nurses that treat the people under them like people under them.. Pretty much like dirt. I'd just TRY to let that one slide and maybe have something ready to say if there is a next time I HOPE NOT! Just know who you are and thats all thats important.
