when should I apply to Nursing school

Published

Hello everyone,

I am attending school in Georgia and will be done with my pre-reqs/ core cirriculum classes by June of 2010. And I plan on getting married around August 2010, however, after our honeymoon around the end of August ,I want to start the nursing program ASAP at whichever school i get accepted. I wanted to know when is the best time for me to start applying to nursing schools, and about how many i should apply too, since its so competetive. Also when should i start studying for the TEAS exam.

Thanks all...

Look up the schools' application deadlines. The schools I applied to (accelerated 2nd Bachelor) had their application deadlines early September, mid-September, and November of 2009 for program start dates May 2010 or even Januar 2011. Some schools will accept applications while you are still taking prerequisistes, but might limit the number of prerequisites that are not yet fulfilled, or the number of (specifically) science prerequisites that you can do after application deadline. For example, one school only allowed one of the four science prerequisites to be unmet by application deadline. Some schools will only let you apply after you have finished all your prerequisites. If you are done in the summer of 2010 you might be able to apply in the Spring of 2010 for a early (maybe January) 2011 start date. I would suggest that you start looking at application requirements and deadlines now, especially since some schools have their deadlines quite a while before the actual program start date.

Thank you for the advice One

So that means I should also start studying for the Teas exam, or is it not that bad.

I think you'd have some time before having to study for the TEAS, but then again, I don't know if you feel you have a lot of knowledge to review. The programs I applied to did not require a TEAS test, so I couldn't tell you how hard or easy it is. If I were you, I'd first start getting the application info together. Some schools require prerequisites others don't, so you want to make sure you know all the classes you need to take for all the schools you want to apply to. Then make sure you know their application deadlines, and if you need anything else (e.g. a CNA certification). Once you have all that info, you can start splitting up your remaining prerequisites, TEAS practice, and of course wedding preparations better. Good luck, and congrats to the upcoming wedding!

I will be done with my pre-reqs in fall 2010, but in my school you only need 30 science credits and a 3.0 gpa to apply so i will be applying for the Spring '11 semester...the deadline has been drilled into my cerebral cortex...September 15. Yay

Thank you so much One..Very helpful advice
