I applied for financial aid but don't really need it?

So I applied for the aid just in case but I plan on paying cash to get through my 2 year degree in nursing. How can I make sure that I don't get aid even though I applied for it? Also, I had about $6000 left from my dependent aid package and when I applied on fafsa, it said that I'm qualifed for independent status for the upcoming semester. Out of curiosity, would I have to finsh the $6000 from being dependent first before I can start using aid from the independent aid package?

You simply decline the award when you get the letter from the financial aid office.

Amount under dependent does not need to be expended before getting access to higher amounts often available for independent students
