Hurricaines, tornados

Can you all tell me what are the cities that are most often hit by tornados and hurricaines? I live in Milwaukee, WI and I'm sick of the cold and snow (and other things :) )
My mother is totally opposed to me taking up residence in Florida once I earn my Bachelors in nursing. She says I'm going to get "blown away :chuckle "
I can understand her concern. Are the tornados and hurricaines usually in north or south florida? inland or on the outskirts?

Every part of Florida is at risk for hurricanes. The thing about hurricanes is that you have lots of advanced warning before one strikes. You can never be caught off guard with one. Also, take a look at where the big hurricanes have hit in the last century. With the exception of Andrew in the late 80's, the vast majority have hit higher on the east coast. I've lived in Florida the majority of my life and have never worried about hurricanes.

When there's a tornado in Florida, it's usually in the central or northern part of the state. I have never felt that tornados were a big issue down here. They happen occasionally, but certainly not enough to worry about.

So...tell you're mom not to fret! Move to Florida and enjoy the sunshine!

I have lived in Fla. all my life and have to say I agree with what she said, you have ALOT of advance warning for a hurricane and even then after you have run out and bought everything they usually always hit some other state and you actually got kind of excited there was something exciting going to happen for once...lol. But as far as tornadoes, I live in central west fla. Hernando County, which is 1 hour norht of Tampa. When and If a tornadoe has hit here, it will blow over dead trees, knock some power lines over and that is about it!! WHOOPI!!! Relax and tell your mom to relax, once you move here, you will have relatives calling to come stay with you because you live in FLa.!!LOL By the way I live 15 mins from the Pasco line. The only thing I would tell you about Pasco County is DON"T live WEST of HIGHWAY 19 unless you like to evacuate alot and get flooded alot. That is the low lying areas!! Other than that you will proably love it here!! Good LUCK!!
