Huron School of Nursing

U.S.A. Ohio

I just want to know who may be going or who have gone to Huron School of Nursing? Please share your experiences.:welcome:

Specializes in Critical Care Float - ICU / ED / PACU.

I was a student at Huron - now a graduate nurse....

I would definately recommend this school. It's a very hard program, BUT.... it's worth it!

We spend a considerable larger amount of time actually on the floors getting hands on experience.... At least - that's what I've noticed with students from other schools.

And - the test questions are based on NCLEX format - hard, but it does prepare you! GOOD LUCK!

Anyone have any updates on the changes at Huron? How are the classes at Southpoint?

The changes at Huron were for the best I've heard. I had just failed my psych rotation this summer and will currently be starting on the new curriculum this summer '08. They have less clinical hours now 6 hours as opposed to 8, they no longer do the Hesi test, and also all of the courses are 7.5 weeks. Good Luck to all

Specializes in Cardiac.

I'm a Huron grad myself, as of May, '07. I had a job as of the day of graduation, and started 2 weeks after. I feel that Huron more than adequately prepared me to become an RN. Of the 60+ in my graduating class, all but (I believe) 5 students didn't pass NCLEX the first time. Their clinical program has been far superior to other schools in the area, with regards to both, skills instruction and clinical hours/locations. For example, not every school gets to do a true ICU rotation. But Huron always does.

Yes, their actual clinical hours have slightly decreased on the floors, but from what I understand, this time is made up for in the skills lab, so it's not just lost time.

The program at Southpointe is the same program as at Huron, but they had to add more classroom space. Same instructors, same curriculum. I haven't heard enough about the actual format that they've switched to to be able to comment on that.

Based on my experiences, I'd highly recommend the school. Good luck to you!

I know a few people who did not make it through the program. You will definitely learn - or else you will simply not make it through the program. I believe the last two graduating classes only had a 40-50% graduation rate - but i believe all of the students that made it through passed their NCLEX on the first try - I think that is very good.

I have not attended Huron's school however I have heard of some sad situations with students expanding their minds and questioning ways in which the nursing profession currently does business. (I cannot reveal too much only because I do not want to jeapordize the students who are currently enrolled.) Students have been told, in so many words, too shut up! They have been threatened that if they persist that they may not graduate and that their career would be affected! It is unthinkable to me that in 2007-2008 we still have women who are perpetuating the unfounded fear into young people!

If I was a young person looking to go into a nursing program I would go into any university based program where questioning and debate are welcome attributes. Nursing is the way it is partly because WE NURSES HAVE PERMITTED IT! We have allowed our FEAR TO CONTROL US EVEN WHEN WE KNEW DIFFERENT. The last thing our profession needs is to produce another generation of nurses that is ruled by FEAR! I urge anyone out there considering a nursing program to take the plunge into a 4 year program, for LOTS of reasons.

snappy - what are your many reasons??? I'm very curious with your strong opinion about a school that you have never attended....

That's a pretty strong accusation.....

Does it matter what type of degree you recieve from Tri-C? (such as Associate of applied Science or Associate of Arts.)
