hi, im first year student at hunter college and hopefully will be going to the nursing school. Im just wondering if anyone has experience with the admissions process for the nursing school. I heard its really competitive and you need at least a 2.5 ... i have a 3.3 so far ... i heard its based on GPA and a test.. im really interested in any statistics on acceptance rates etc. ... thanx !! :)

@Princesstinkerbell They only admit once a year.

I understand that. But why are they not admitting for Fall 2011??

@goofina, they should accept you (assuming that your GPA and NLN score are good) even if you are taking a course-in-progress. Make sure you complete all of your Pluralism and Diversity and Writing-Intensive requirements (and other GERs) before admission into the program.

@lovelyanne, make sure that even if you take one course before applying to Hunter (yes you need to be matriculated for one semester prior to applying) that you do really well on it. I heard this helps your GPA immensely.

@ARI RN, their RN-Pathway program is pretty good. Be prepared for the pathophysiology and research courses if you haven't taken them already.

thanks herowneulogy,

i am registered for four gen ed classes at hunter for spring 2011--- women's studies, european studies etc. AND I will be taking the NLN feb 8th! I am very nervous but am just going to continue studying every day from now until then. How did you prepare for the exam?

I am also wondering how my GPA will be calculated since I won't have a Hunter GPA... wondering if it will be from the prereqs and my undergrad gpa?

hmmm, so many questions!

GPA is calculated from all nursing pre-reqs: Chemistry, Organic chemistry, A&P 1 &2, Microbiology, Psychology, Statistic courses, etc. Make sure you apply for the program at the Admissions Office once they start taking applicants. If you are taking any nursing pre-req courses that are pending/in-progress, indicate that on your application.

Good luck on your NLN (good to see that you've registered on time). The BEST program has NLN study sessions held every saturday from 10am-1pm at the Brookdale campus if my memory serves me right. Similar to studying for the SATs. You should be fine.

Sorry about this. When I responded before, it was during the wee hours of the morning....sometimes things start to look different, I thought you wrote Fall 2011. No idea why they are not admitting until then. I didn't see that on their website though. They had students for Summer 2009 and Fall 2010.....I'm assuming that they would have candidates for Fall 2011 as they begin to develop the program into one that accepts candidates twice a year. Maybe get in touch with the Dean/Program Director for A2D.

Also @goofina and anyone else, apparently there's a new admission system called CAS? Might want to look into that. They're holding an information session on January 28th at the Brookdale campus. I would suggest going if you can make it. While there, get whatever phone numbers you can to look follow-up with. Do the same for the counselors at the Admissions Office. Take care.
