Human Anat & Phys 1 and 2 in the same semester online

Published

Hello Pre-Nursing Friends!!

Does anyone know of any schools that allow you to take Human Anat & Phys 1 and 2 in the same semester online (Summer, Spring or Fall)??????? Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is the only one that I know of that offers this.

Example:

SUMMER 1st term - Human Anatomy and Physiology I

SUMMER 2nd term - Human Anatomy and Physiology II

or

SPRING 1st term - Human Anatomy and Physiology I

SPRING 2nd term - Human Anatomy and Physiology II

or

FALL 1st term - Human Anatomy and Physiology I

FALL 2nd term - Human Anatomy and Physiology II

You need to have what you learned in a&p 1 to go into 2. In most schools its a pre-req. There are some schools that offer a 5 credit a&p course, but its pretty intense and has fallen out of favor.

Most community colleges will let you do A&P I in a short semester followed by A&P II the next short semester, but get ready for some very intense studying and difficult exams. I took A&P II 2 years ago in the second summer session and I almost failed.

:twocents: For credibility's sake: I have completed all my prerequisites and am applying to nursing programs; I have a solid 4.0.

Frankly speaking, I think compressing A&P in any way is insane. You DO NOT want to do this.

I took A&P over a fall and spring semester. As you probably know, summer sessions are much shorter (read: "more condensed"). I studied more for those two semesters of A&P than I did for my ENTIRE Bachelor's Degree in computer science. I'm not kidding.

A&P is the foundation of everything you will encounter in your nursing education, and I suspect, your nursing profession. This is the stuff you will need in the long term, and there is more information than you can imagine. To try to cut corners or just "get through" this pivotal course would do you (and your patients) a disservice.

As far as online courses, I'm not a big fan, as I do FAR better in a classroom/lab setting, interacting with other humans, bouncing ideas, engaging in questions and discussion, etc. Not that it can't or shouldn't be done, it's just not my thing. If you go with an online approach, be sure that any questions or concerns you have do not go unanswered; they are likely to surface again.

Be one of "The Greats" - take the time to completely immerse yourself in A&P; if you love health care, you will love A&P. And hate it; after all, it is a hell of a lot of work!

Sorry if this came across harsh.

Make sure your college will accept online credits for ap. The school I went to would not. Many schools require lab time at a real place

I'm not sure if A&P has been added, but check out Oregon State. They have online science classes such as biology and chemistry with labs online. The classes are not cheap and I think hit in the 900$ range.

Something no one has bothered to ask yet: Why exactly would you want to do this?

A local community college offers A&PI and II in a single semester in-seat and I wouldn't do it. I love A&P and want to relish it on the one hand and, on the other, it is just too much to try and get in that short a period of time. I cannot even imagine what trying to take it all online would be like.

I have to believe that any program like this is going to either be deficient or so compressed that the student will be doing little more than retaining for as long as it takes to be tested, and it seems to me that, as future nurses, Human Anatomy and Physiology is not a subject we want to be rinsing and spitting.
