Hi,
Hoping for some advice, long-term care facility I work at is incredibly short-staffed. I agreed to come in and work as a CNA instead of a nurse but the med-tech working asked if I would pass meds for the morning med pass and she would work the floor as she said it would give her a "break". I counted with the off-going nurse and everything was fine I did the am pass and when it was time for me to leave I still had several patients left reported that to the med tech and she seemed upset so I agreed to help her run the meds to the patients in the dining room, which is where we were, she took over the cart we finished the med pass and got to chatting. After a bit she went to pass the rest of the meds that were becoming due I spoke with some other colleagues and left for the day. I received a call at home 13 hours later that they could not find a card of narcotics. which is when I realized that the medtech and I did not count off. What I was told originally is it looked like a transcription error as there was no card for hydrocodone but there was a paper sign out sheet for lomotil and no lomotil. I went in as I asked did my statement offered to do a urine test and the facility said they don't do that. No one else on the shift has been asked to do a written statement and I'm now being told that they found a bunch of narcotics sign-out sheets in the shredder so it appears as if there's about a hundred missing pills. I have never had a narcotic error ever but I've also never worked at a facility where they didn't have everyone come back do a written statement and do a drug screen. apparently the police have been called but I'm still baffled as to what's going on.

When you counted with the off-going nurse was the card there?
Did the medtech pour meds in the dining room and you passed them? Big no no if so.
How did they "find" narc sign out sheets in the shredder? Is that not the purpose of the shredder?
There is so much going on here, hard to help you.
The count was correct when I counted with the off going nurse. She did prepare the meds in the dining room, I stood with her and did them and then took them to the patient. Supposedly they opened the shredder looking for missing paperwork and found all kinds of narc sheets

You might want to consider hiring an attorney.
So the count was correct when you got there, then when you left you did not count then a whole card of narcs turned up missing?
See above^^ and you can also go and get an independent tox screen.
Best wishes
