I am not sure where this discussion should go.... so I figured I would try the general nursing discussion first.
I am a pre-nursing student and have been considering taking a Health Unit Coordinator / Unit Secretary course to support myself while attending school.
I've reviewed quite a few job posting for this position, and all of them state that applicants must have completed a HUC course from an accredited school/program. But... who grants accreditation to these programs? Local schools have no information posted on their websites. The ads themselves don't say who the accreditation board might be.
I checked the National Association of Health Coordinators and although they provide a list of programs, they have a disclaimer stating NAHUC has not reviewed, or approved any of these programs.

I am lost here..... Anyone have any ideas?

Wow! I had no idea they could be accredited, I was trained on the job while finishing nursing school and it led to the nursing position I have now, I'd call the HR office or go in and ask them, could be that because you're a nursing student you might qualify without the accredidation as you would better understand the doc's orders and such than someone with no medical training or knowledge, good luck!

I am currently going through HUC training in another state. I know that the cc I am going to is accredited; however, I haven't heard that my program is actually accredited. Have you tried calling HR at the hospitals where you have seen the job requirements? Maybe they know where the local programs are. In my case, there is only one place in the area offering the training, so that's where I am attending.
