Hi everyone I was just wondering if I could some Nursing students opnion on the HRSA scholarship. I'm not sure what to do. i dont really care for the idea of being tied down for 2 years. I'm already 29 and I would really like to go back to school eventually for my CRNA or RN first assistant. Thing is you need to work in critical care for a while. If I apply for this scholarship I'm not sure how much that will get in the way. I know they give you a few choices but its not like you can request to go into a critical care setting so you can have the opportunity to go back to school. Besides my program is only 7k. Thing is I will not be working while while in the program and only have 10k left after paying for the first semester. what does everyone think. Oh by the way I havent started the program but I start this monday. So of course I can apply for my 1st yr. Thanks for the input everyone

For 7k you have the freedom to work where you want. If it was a 30k or 50k program, one might want to consider options to get out of debt.

I would at least apply. I'm a new Nursing student this year and I went and applied. If you get funding doesnt mean you have to complete the paper work, just let them know you change your mind. I applied for this school year and applicants were to be notified by the end of September if we got the scholarship or not. From what I was told almost 1000 students applied and only 400-500 will get be granted funds. If we were not selected to get funds we would receive something by the end of October. I have been waiting for almost 3 weeks and have not seen anything yet in the mail. And even if you wanted to apply you would have to wait until the new year to even apply. The application process has been closed for the 2010-2011 school year. As far as being tied down for two years, as long as you are working for a hospital (or other place) that has a shortage of nurses it doesn't matter what part of it you work in. Just remember there is a ton of paper work you need to complete and you will need to follow up on your school to make sure they get it all sent in before the deadline. Good Luck:yeah:
i forgot are you talking about the nursing scholarship program or the nursing repayment loan? the NSP has closed i dont know about the other one.
