Hi all!

Just curious what other staff nurses work schedules are like. Do you have 72 or 80 hour pay periods? Is 72 hrs/pay period considered full time? What about weekends; every other, every fourth, etc?

Thanks

Just depends where you work. 72 hrs. is full time. It is 3 shifts per week, 12 hrs. each shift. As far as the

weekends, that is entirely up to the place of employment. When the employer is doing their full time hours,

if you work 72 hrs. a pay period, you are considered a .9 FTE. (full time employee) If you work 80 hrs. a pay

then you are considered a 1.0 FTE. That has something to do with the way you accrue benefits, such as sick

hours and vacation hours.

One hospital i worked at REQUIRED 80 hours per pay period. Meaning we worked 3 12's one week and worked 4 12's the next week to meet our required hours. Most hospitals have either 64 or 72 hours as full time. Just depends. Some units don't need their regular full time staff to work weekends except on rare occasion because of weekenders. Some units require 4 or 5 weekend days out of a schedule. Just depends.
