HPU Nursing School

Published

Awhile back I submitted a post to allnurses.com detailing my extreme frustration and dissapointment with my experience at HPU. I did not do this maliciously or with any other intent then to vent my true feelings and experiences. In rereading this post I don't believe it was written with as much forethought or elequonce as I would have liked it to have been written with but did reflect my feelings at that time. It has been brought to my attention that the Dean of my school knows who wrote this post and that there might be consequences for me having written it. I believe that it is our right to come to this website and discuss our thoughts and feelings about our experiences at nursing school. We have very few other places to go to vent and be heard.

My experience at HPU has not changed that much. There have continued to be problems, although this time they were dealt with promptly and fairly efficiently. I have been extremely satisfied with many of my professors and clinical experiences. Yet I continue to feel like our grievences haven't been heard and properly addressed. I need a place like allnurses.com where I feel safe to come and let my frustrations and feelings be known. I refuse to feel pressure from my academic institution to not post my true feelings and experiences. If I was treated properly to begin with I would have nothing negative to say about HPU.

It is fine to come here to vent. Sometimes that can be very therapeutic. However, we strongly caution about giving too many details that would allow one to be able to identify you. This seems to be what happened in your situation. This site is viewed by many.....even nursing instructors, deans, DON's, etc. You need to be careful not to post libelous statements.

Let me refer you to a section of the Terms of Service of this site.

No potentially libelous information about specific schools, instructors, or health care facilities/entities should be posted in these forums. While it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. It is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. Your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. While allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. Gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. Please do not give out personal information about others. Do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

This is for your own protection.

I wish you all the best as you continue toward your goals.

hi jpeters,

First off, thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with others. It has benefited people in ways you will never know.

I am currently a student at HPU and have encountered some similar situations regarding pressure to keep quiet about my opinions at the school. I'd like to talk to you about how you handled grievances with the school and any tips you might have for navigating the school's sometimes-shady politics.

I don't have my 15 post quota yet, so I can't send you a private message. Maybe you could send me a message with your email? I hope you get this!

If they know who posted the last one, why post about the specific school again?

Just wondering, no offense or criticizing intended.

Well, for one, I'm asking the OP to contact me privately. Where is the fault in that? But most importantly, I feel it is necessary for students to be able to talk about their experiences with the school with other students or prospective students.

Heh, I understand completely. I was just making an observation.

And I have read all she's said about the program, and I COMPLETELY understand her frustration and anger. And in your shoes, I would certainly want to know all I could about the program. Like I said, I was merely making an observation..if she's facing the potential of getting in trouble with the school for writing here (which would be rediculous--she has a right to express her opinions and obviously can't do it there), why would she post specifics again when now they might be watching her.
