Hi there,
Anyone apply this fall for the VA PMHNP scholarship? I applied in October, and was told that a decision would be given by “Mid-November”. I haven’t had much luck getting helpful information from the team that awards the scholarship.
Anyone here waiting for a reply?
For folks that received the scholarship, how long did it take you to get notified?
Is the 12 month residency paid? Or is it a part of the clinical?
Anyone done with the scholarship and working for the VA? Did you get to choose your placement?
Looking forward any info available.
Thanks!

Hello, I got accepted for the PMHNP HPSP in July or August of this year. I recieved a tentative email first. Then an acceptance. The residency program is paid with benefits. Pay is based off where you will be. On the VA's hpsp section some of the sites have information listed now. I was told you get a wish list of 5 places you want to go. But it is truly based on the needs of the VA.

Thanks for the information @stormp757. It’s the most helpful information I’ve received in this process. Residency happens after graduation, or during the program? How many years of service will you have to give in exchange for 1 year or tuition payment?
So far, do you feel like the program is worth it?
Have you found the HPSP office to be helpful in answering your questions?
I really appreciate your response.
Thank you!

Hey, the program residency is after graduation. And it's for 2 or 3 years depending on how many years they pay for in exchange for you.The VA careers website has some good information on there but I haven't seen much. For me this program is beneficial. I am able to focus solely on school so the stipend helps tremendously. And I am excited to get the training from the VA. This is a great opportunity!. One year means you give back 2 years at a VA.
Thank you for this information! That is also why I am interested in the scholarship as well (potential to focus on courses). I wish you all the best in your studies, and beyond!

I have been accepted for the HPSP PMHNP scholarship. Does anyone know where these residency programs are? thanks!!
Hello, it varies based on when you start. Although they have a lot of locations some are available in Spring while others are available Summer and Winter. Really just depends on when you graduate. congratulations on your acceptance.
Thank you! I would be starting in the Fall of 2023 as I finish clinicals in May 2023 and I believe that they give you 90 days? to relocate. Read that somewhere...
