How do you wear your hair for clinicals?

Published

I've been hearing that our clinical instructors are super picky about our appearance at clinicals (As they should be!). Our hair cannot touch our collars but I'm afraid that a ponytail may be looked down on as being sloppy?! I want to look like I care about my appearance but I don't want to spend a long time in doing my hair when I have to be there at 5:30 am!!! Any ideas?

I've been out of school for nearly a year, but I wanted to add this:

I usually wear a bun--ponytail just above ear level, twisted around itself and wrapped in a scrunchie. Several of my residents have commented that I 'always look so neat and clean' or similar things. As an added bonus, I can wear a scrunchie that coordinates with my scrubs OR one that fits my mood. I get the best reaction from one with smiley faces on it.

It's best just to shave all your hair off

I hate wearing my hair up! It's so uncomfortable to me. I have rarely worn it up in years. I have straight almost tailbone length (heavy) hair that usually makes my head sore when I do wear it up. I also hate my ears because they stick out, I want to have them pinned.

There is no way I am cutting my hair, it took a long time to get it long and healthy and I'm proud of it. I guess I have to just suck it up and try to wear updos that don't pull on my scalp so much and look like an elf. LOL..

What is the most conservative, professional way for nurses to wear long hair? Tight, sleek, low bun? That would be best for state testing and interviews right?

Nursenina, how about a french braid?
