How useful are the recommended text books?

Published

Hi,

I am thinking of buying the Pharmacology text by Kee and the Nutrition book by Schlenker. For those of you that have purchased this books did you find them useful. Or is there an alternative?

Thank you,

Traci:)

I got the recommended textbooks from half.com. They're very cheap when you buy the previous ed. The FON book, for example...I got it for 75 cents, brand new with CD. If you buy the latest ed, it would still cost you a lot.

Call me a nut, but I only used the textbooks and actually read all the assignments. It helped me get all 'A's in every class, pass the CPNE without any repeats and pass the NCLEX with 75 questions and only 1 week of review for the test.

I figured if I spent quality time studying throughout the program, I wouldn't have to cram at the end. I still use my books for review and to look up interesting patient problems I come across.

Use whatever works for you...good luck!

You don't need the nutrition book. I used a pharmocology book that I already had.

Ditto. I also made sure to get the current med/surg book but got older editions of everything else if the library didn't have them.

I will have to agree with LUNAH, Im not that far with exams just getting ready to take Chronicity but I do feel I have learned by reading, and I do want to have some idea when I do become an RN of what to do. Anyway I can be anal about things in a way I try to understand what I learning about. I guess you can call me a digger and analyzer. LOL I do feel it helps to know or have some idea on what you need to do when you face issues. It would make me to nervous not to know what to do. Im nervous to begin with even if I know. LOL
