How should use study package from ATI?

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

Well I decided to purchase the ATI study package and I would like advice on how to use it. Is there anyone out there that can give advice how the use study package. Did you take the online assessments first then study the manual? Or did you study the manual and take online assessments? Should I take both tests for part A and part B? I am not quite sure how to organize my study habits. I am taking the Teas V test, January 25th. I haven't received study guide yet it will take 3-6 business days from today. So the clock is ticking for my study time. I have had all my prerequisites except A&P II and its been some time for my chemistry and algebra. Should I just take my first assessment now and see how I do, without studying? Then I would know what I need to work on or should I review the study manual when I get it then take my first assessment. Any suggestions are welcome and thank you in advance.

Hi Everybody,

Well I decided to take the first online assessment Part A and it took me 3 hours 37 minutes and My Individual Total Score was 67.3%. I need 75% for my nursing program.

My Reading was 81%

Math 83.3%

Science 50%

English 60%

So I definitely need some help in Science and English. I think I can nail the English because I understand my mistakes. But the Science is a whole different ball game. I am going to have to really buckle down on the Science. I think I will take assessment part B tomorrow. I haven't got my study guide manual yet. So I am just doing the assessments cold turkey. Any suggestions on how I can organize my studying is welcome. Do you think I should take assessment part B tomorrow?

No, don't take assessment B yet. I think you can easily improve your math and English since those two basically follow strict rules. Learn those rules in the official TEAs guide book before you take the second test. But since you don't have the book yet, Google is your friend. There should be an overview of which questions and topic you got wrong on the practice test. I suggest you look over those topics since they may indicate your weak points. Google those topics and study from other resources! Study a full week before you take another practice test or else you exhaust your practice tests. Practice tests are supposed to gauge at where you are in studying and improving. Blindly taking them without studying first is wasteful imo. As for science and English, review those in the official TEAs guide too but you may need extra help with outside resources.

I got over 90% on my Teas. Basically, this is how I organized my studying:

1. I reviewed the official TEAs guide entirely.

2. I took one practice test. Reviewed my missed questions and weak points (topics I missed a lot on).

3. I study my weak points and do individual practice questions on it (search Google for free questions).

4. I practice.

5. I took a second practice exam (can be from online, official TEAs guide, or another book). Treat your practice tests like the real deal.

6. Repeat steps 2-5. Review the official TEAs guide when necessary.

7. Rest on the 1-2 days just before the test. Sleep well the night before. Eat healthy and so on.

Hope this helps! You can't rush a good score. A good score is earned with patience and good study habits.

Thank you Honey Clover. I will wait for my study guide. Because you scored well I trust your knowledge and experience.

Np! You can do as many practice tests you like as long as you keep reviewing your mistakes and going over the topics you missed again. I ended up doing over 15 practice tests within 2 weeks and much more individual questions. When doing practice individual questions for a specific topic from online resources, I suggest searching up as much as possible and keep doing them until you are getting more correct than wrong answers. When you feel comfortable with that topic that you missed, then move onto the next. I studied for about 2.5 weeks (everyday 6-8 hours) so that is a factor too. Good luck!

I will get the ATI manual Saturday but without it you said to Google the areas I missed. I don't know the exact question. So just Google the general subject area. Is there a specific website I could go to that you used?

Im taking my exam next week. I purchased the book and have studied for about 4 weeks now. I got the same score on the online practice test assessment A last week. Hopefully I improve my score on the B one tmr. Keep practicing. It is just annoying when I keep feeling anxious as the exam is coming

Good luck lighton. I hope your score improves on test assessment B and you score well on the exam.

Thanks tbird88! I received a 72 on my online practice test assessment B. I have improved but not too much. I feel not so confident to take this test because English is my second language, and I am kinda slow reader. Reading portion for me is not too hard, but I need more time to read carefully and think thoroughly for correct answers. I don't know what to expect on the science portion since people say that the questions are too random. But I make sure to go through the manual many times so that whenever they give me an basic concept, I can answer correctly. I hope you are doing okay. Manage your time for studying and good luck!

Hi Lighton,

I am studying the manual now, I started with Science portion because this was my weakness. I just skimmed through Reading and English. And I am currently working on Math. I am doing okay. I feel confident reading through the material and I found Reading to be very understandable. One of my biggest problems is the Chemistry portion. I will have to get additional help with this area. I am kind of all over the place and I am having a little hard time working out all problems and just skip to the back to look up answers. So I need to practice some more and try to focus better. I took my second assessment A test and scored a lot higher than first time. Reading 90.5%, Mathematics, 86.7%, Science, 83.3% and English, 86.7% but I think it is because I took the test before. I plan to take my assessment B soon.

I did the exam today, and I have to say that the actual TEAS exam is easier than the online practice exams though. It is quite similar to the two practices in the back of the ATI Manual. I almost ran out of time in the reading part because there were many passages to read. Sometimes I just skimmed and look for the answers. The rest is okay for me. I did not expect that there were many hypothesis questions in the Science section though. I could not sleep well the night before because the nervousness kept waking me up. Now I have to wait for like a week for the results. Anyway, keep up with your studying and practicing!

Hi Lighton,

So you think the TEAS exam was more similar to the ATI Study Manual than the online practice exams. I feel like the ATI Study Manual is harder than the online practice exams. Maybe just because it is writing it out by hand. Was your test handwritten? I only scored 73% overall on the Study Manual for the first exam but I still need to take the second exam. I scored higher on online practice tests.

I know you are glad you took the test. I have 1 week before I take it and I still need to study the Science portion. All the other areas I think I can get through okay.
