1.)How can I tell If I am alone in a chat room?
There is usually a list on the right hand side of users who are currently logged in/chatting. You should see your own user nickname there. If that field is blank/you only see your name.... you're alone. The chat screen will also be void of... you know... chat.
2.) Where does the conversation get displayed?
You'll see a field of "conversation" that slowly moves upwards as users add their comments to the chat. You can't miss it. The lines of messages/comments may seem jumbled/out of synch. That's normal. It takes practice to keep up/keep the comments straight and figure out who's talking to who. Keep reading and don't feel pressured to add your own comments until you're ready. Watching/reading a chat room/forum is called "lurking".
3.)When several people are Chatting, how will I know when it is my turn to talk ?
You don't have a turn, you take one. Add your comment/response at your leisure. Just jump in!
4.)Can Chats be limited to a particular # of participants?
Yes and that's determined by the person who's set up/controls the chat room. It may be set so there's no limit to the number of ppl who can chat at a given time. It all depends on who the chat operatior is/their server.
I hope this helps, Daisy Marie. For more info, just ask here or better yet, go to your favorite search engine (I like Google) and type in some key words (for example chat basics or chat rules or chat etiquette) for further tips.
Hi NICU Nurse,
Thank You. I will keep your offer in mind. I have not had much luck lurking on professional Nursing sites. But I have only tried a few times. I did check out some sources on "Chat etiquette." I learned that I do not want to chat outside of Nursing sites. But that is just my timid "chicken" self.
Thanks again.
Daisy M.

Hi,
One of my assignments as I work on earning my BSN is to partake in a "Live Chat." I am a "Newbie" on the "Net" and have surfed the "Web" I went to the site, "allnurses.com...Live Chat" and I think I was the only one there. I am unsure about the following:
1.)How can I tell If I am alone in a chat room?
2.) Where does the conversation get displayed?
3.)When several people are Chatting, how will I know when it is my turn to talk ?
4.)Can Chats be limited to a particular # of participants?
;-) Thanks,
Daisy Marie
