Published

Hello Everyone,

I am a nursing assistant and i start school this Aug (finally!!) My shift at work is 3-11:30. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to stay in shape, exercise programs etc. By the time i get home and showered its way passed midnight, i have a difficult time waking up to go to the gym. If anyone has any suggestions I'll gladly appreciate them!!

start with taking the stairs, yep even up 9 flights and leave home 5 minutes early and park furthest away. This will start you off on the right track. Take care of yourself:heartbeat

Good post.

My hubby is in his Nursing Program and he is disciplined in doing some exercise every day.

Yes it is hard because he is so tired at times but you CAN do it.

He gets on the treadmill and then I have him working out for a short time with weights and low impact work.

Using your own body weight is good to keep those bones strong and healthy. Do stretches then squats and excersises that use large muscles to get your heart rate elevated quickly. Good to huff and puff :)

It all boils down to how committed you are in doing this really.:yeah:

Now drop and give me 20 pushups :chuckle ;)

I am also determined to get in shape before nursing school in august. I lost 90 lbs several years ago and have now gained back some of it. I need to lose fourty pounds. I am just wondering how I will fit in exercise into school. During prereq. I got out of the exercise habit. I am now working my way back up to an hour of vigorous walking a day. If I couldn't fit in exercise during prereq. I don't know how I will fit it in during nursing school.

I think the easiest way to stay "in shape" is to pick a shape that is easy to me. For example, "round and pudgy." I have found that real easy to maintain.

"Long and lean" seems to be impossible for me.

I need to lose some weight so I am walking daily mainly. I may join a gym. I can't believe how hard it is to not blow up once you hit forty. I had an easier time losing weight after my kids than now.
