There may be classes you can take as electives in your nursing program, but mostly you get into a specialty by graduating and applying to work in that area. There are no specific nursing programs (that I know of, at least) that prepare you for only one specialty, with the exception of graduate degrees. We all graduate as generalists.

Ok so I don't know if this is a dumb question or not but how does a nurse become specialized in a certain field (ob/gyn, ICU, pulmonary)?
