How soon to pursue RN to BSN transition?

Published

I graduate with my ADN in December and I am really excited to get to work. In my area, a BSN isn't necessary to get hired at the local hospital, so I don't have to get my BSN right away, but I know that it's important. Is it ok for me to wait a year or two and get some experience under my belt before going on for an online BSN? I already have a lot of the prerequisites, but I'm so sick of school that I would like some time just to adjust to being a nurse. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Thanks so much for all your comments everyone. I really appreciate all the help.

Congrats on your soon to be graduation from the adn program! I think it depends on if you're tired from school, want a break or want to start having a job that soon.

personally for me, if I'm done with the adn program and need to so RN to BSN I'd go applying whenever the application timeframe is open because I like to still be energized and in school mode like others said. it makes sense to keep the school mode going on, You still have the information in your head and stuff. I feel like if I took time off from school I may become lazy or unmotivated you know? I like to keep busy if I can.

Nursing school will rank up there with one of the hardest things I have ever done. I have realized I was meant to be a nurse but I wouldn't put myself willingly through school again... With that said when I graduate in May with my RN I will roll it over because I know myself well enough to know I won't go back.

I think it's more of a personal decision. If you are they type of person that will go back after a break go for it. You've earned it. If you know you'll be happy enough with what you have and will not, that's fine too.
