Greetings allnurses.com!! My friend who does not go on this site asked me a question and thought I'd ask you guys (more experienced!) for any advice and comments.
My friend who is also a new grad accepted a job verbally and now is deciding maybe he does not want to take it anymore due to personal reasons. He has not signed anything, just a verbal yes over the phone. I think this makes him look bad, but only to the eyes of that hospital. Right? I am just wondering what kind of repercussions there could be for him in the future or now. Besides the fact that he probably would never be hired from that hospital again...
Thanks for any advice and comments! :redbeathe

Personally I think if he does not want to take the job, he should gracefully back out.
Contact the person who he spoke with when he verbally accepted, explain that due to personal circumstances, or a change in ________, or whatever, he does not believe the job will be the best fit for him. Thank them for their time and consideration, "I feel flattered to have been offered the position," "I'm sorry to cause you any inconvenience," etc. and walk away.
The hospital does not want to waste its money orienting and training someone who doesn't want to be there and will think better of him for backing out now than they will if he gets started and leaves.
Good luck to your friend!
