Busy. A lot of sick kids already. I have had an arrthythmia, a couple of diabetics, bronchitis, head lice, spider bite, stings, the usual cuts and burns, two broken fingers, knee injury, lots of vomiting and shingles.

So far I have counted the days until Thanksgiving break at least 8 times.
I work in a middle school with "distressed & transient populations." Half of our kids speak at least 2 languages; their parents, however, rarely speak English. Most of our kids receive little or no preventative care. Their "doctor" is either the ER or the medico who lives in the downstairs apartment. Or me! I know of at least 60 kids who have asthma--only 12 actually have inhalers at school. This year I got a break--no diabetic students! How lucky is that!
I average seeing about 45-50 students/day. Unless it's spring--then its 75+/day. There is no budget for the clinic, so getting supplies is a constant battle (we have not PTA, either.) I usually see about 100 kids with significant injury/illness each month--things like fractures sustained both at home and at school, head injuries, chest pain, and asthma attacks. I probably have to call 911 about once a month.
For the most part I enjoy school nursing; being with young teens all day keeps me young. I try to remember that even though they have adult-size bodies, they still think like the 11-14 year olds they are. Sometimes the constant stress of being the Go To Girl for every perceived emergency gets wearing. If I can just hang in there for a few more years, I can see retirment around the corner:smiletea2:
