How to Register for NCLEX-RN (for Hawaii Students Only)

Published

Aloha my fellow Hawaii Nursing Students!! If you're in your last semester of nursing school here is a helpful cheat sheet to navigate the registration for NCLEX. It can be overwhelming and complicated when you don't have the right type of guidance so I'll do my best to make this as thorough as possible to help you understand the process. If you have any questions, please let me know, I'll be happy to try and answer them.

This is the current process as of March 5, 2016, so please do your due diligence as well to verify these steps are still up-to-date.

Step 1

At the 2-3 month mark before your graduation date you should complete the following:

  • Request official transcripts” with your school's registrar's office to be sent to the State of Hawaii Board of Nursing (there is usually a fee for this)
  • Make sure when you request for transcripts with the registrar, you select HOLD FOR DEGREE” – this is so they will wait to send your transcripts right after your final semester grades have been finalized and you have been awarded your nursing degree
  • Have your transcripts sent to:

Hawaii Board of Nursing

DCCA, PVL Licensing

P.O. Box 3469

Honolulu, Hawaii 96801

Step 2

Register with Pearson Vue

Go to Home | NCSBN. Follow the prompts to create an account then purchase a registration for the NCLEX-RN exam (this will cost $200). *You will not pick a date for the exam yet, but rather you will just pay for it upfront and once the Hawaii Board of Nursing clears you and notifies Pearson Vue you are able to now pick an exam date.

Step 3

Fill out the State's BON License by Examination Application. You can get the form online at http://cca.hawaii.gov/pvl/files/2013/06/copy_of_pvl_nursing_exam.pdf or just google hawaii nursing exam application” it should be the first result that pops up when you click search

  • Mail the application or drop it off with a check of $40 made payable to Commerce & Consumer Affairs”

OR

Step 4

After graduation, you may want to check on the status of your official transcripts with your school's registrar's office. This is when the waiting begins.

After transcripts have been sent to Hawaii BON, you will have to wait on an ATT (Authorization to Test), which will be emailed to you by Pearson Vue. You will get this ATT once the Hawaii Board of Nursing has verified your application and confirmed you are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam.

In the meantime, you should begin preparing and studying for the NCLEX.

Step 5

Once you receive your ATT go to Pearson Vue and pick an exam date.

Now study, study, study and practice hundreds of questions and you'll do great!! Good luck

I am just wondering. Have you gotten the license yet?

Hi cooper-rn, CNA!

Yes, I finally did get my license. On the Hawaii State Licensing site it says my license was issued 2/29/16 after taking the exam on 2/16/16, but I was checking the site almost every day after and finally saw my license posted on 3/21/16.

I did some of my prereqs in maui. Wish I still lived out there it's an amazing place
