How to prepare for nursing school

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi,

I start nursing school next month, and I was wondering if anyone has read a book that really helped them be a better nursing student? I've found some books on Amazon (e.g., How to Survive and Maybe Even Love Nursing School by Kelli S. Dunham) - can anyone suggest anything similar that worked for you? Thanks a lot.

As for books I've heard good things about Mosbys tour guide also. I haven't read it myself but know others who have.

There is also a nursing channel on YouTube called TheNurseChannel. It's Nacole and several other students and nurses who post their experience in all types of situations. I found it yesterday and it's pretty cool! :)

Brush up on your critical thinking skills, especially if you're going straight to RN. Assessment is the main part of the RN's job. My program reviewed the A&P, Microbiology and Pharmacology as we went. Even in this third semester, we had a quick GI overview before starting GI disorders. We're still students. We aren't expected to know everything inside any out just yet.

I passed the PN NCLEX in January '11. While studing for the boards a few of the NCLEX review books I came across suggested using the book as a guide during nursing school. I used Pearson Vue's NCLEX review. It outlined every diagnosis, symptoms, interventions, treatments, pharmacology..etc, plus questions and rationals. It will be a great asset to use with your nursing textbooks.
