I am in a monitoring program for psychosis, not substance use. But I have to get UAs anyway, same as anyone else. I'm losing my mind over all the ways I could accidentally fail a drug test. I thought I could just avoid drugs and alcohol and be fine. But now I'm realizing I have to worry about sugar alcohols, poppy seeds, alcohol in cleaning products etc.
It seems impossible to pass this program! Almost every beauty product I have has alcohol in it. My case manager insists I don't have to worry about these with "normal use". But then I see all kinds of stories online about people getting false positives from food and household products.
Has anyone here actually made it through the program without false positives?
NurseJackie69 said:No, and it's not about "what's heard." It's about data, science, physiology, and not nurse breakroom or reddit gossip. Blood is Not Illegal. It's naturally in every human body. Drug and Lab Testers have known since drug testing and urine specimen collections began many decades ago that females have menstrual cycles and they easily account for that and blood does not effect the test whatsoever.
Thank you so much for always responding. 🙂

Welcome. I love my fellow nurses and I love recovery. I love 12 steps and my responses are in accordance with step 12 which I take seriously and truly do want to help nurses who find themselves in a very tough, and somewhat.....unfair situation. It's not completely unfair for most of us, but at times, BONs and Monitoring Programs can make it somewhat unfair. YOU have got this! You WILL finish your monitoring program and this WILL be behind you. There IS a light at the end of tunnel, and keep moving towards it and each day you wake up, you can feel good about yourself because you know you are moving in the right direction, no matter how long the tunnel seems, your direction is perfect and yes, the Tunnel Does End.

Yes it WILL end.

This is really random but I saw your post history, did you ever get tested for nicotine that you know of?
Lunacat28 said:I eat whatever I want. The only thing I avoid is poppy seeds because I got slammed for that in the beginning and I've never even done drugs ever in my life. (don't ever buy Thomas everything bagels btw, that's what made me pop positive). There's alcohol in literally everything, and just don't take medications that aren't prescribed to you.
Have you ever eaten ice cream while in monitoring? I know all flavors of ice cream have vanilla extract, but IDK if it's enough to test positive. I ask because I got a cold stone gift card right when this all started LOL.

Nurse Gray- I saw you are in CO. Can you tell me how your evaluation went if it was in person or virtual. How long did you get put on monitoring for? Did you have trouble getting or keeping your job?

It was virtual and it was pretty chill. Just answer honestly, especially about substances. I voluntarily entered into a 2 year contract, but the Board hasn't reviewed my case yet, so it could end up being longer. I already lost one of my jobs because it wasn't protected under FMLA, and I'm going to quit the other one and look for a new one.

Give it some very very deep thought before you quit the job you have. Everyone's situation is different, but just trust me, give it deep thought before quitting the job you currently have.
Most nurses don't know this until it faces them and that is........once you get your consent order/agreement which comes from the BON, part of the requirements of your consent order is that you give your new or future employer/your boss a copy of your consent order and your consent order will go into detail about what you did, and the BON will check eith your employer after you start to make sure they have a copy as your employer will have to turn in quarterly reports to the BON.
It's easy to give a brief summary to your employer about what you did and how you are now active in recovery and doing well, but the employer WILL see the x rated version (which is written in your consent order). Keep this in mind when looking for that new job (or before you wit the old one).

I have to quit it, it's PRN and I can only have one job in the program. I can't live off PRN pay and no benefits.
